Given the huge demand for tourism in the State, the Maharashtra government is likely to come up with a rental home policy for outbound tourists soon.

The Maharashtra government is likely to come up with a vacation rental home policy for tourist residents soon. According to Valsa Nair Singh, Principal Secretary (Tourism), Maharashtra, the policy will help regulate the entire trade of vacation homes and curb the instances of tourists getting fleeced.  As averred by Nair, the demand for homes in faraway places has gradually picked up the pace in recent times. Such residences enjoy an edge over hotel rooms in different parts of the State.

Under the new policy, the place shall be checked for authentication before it is given the permission to host tourists. The tourism department is also planning to have a caravan parking bay at the base of the historic Raigad Fort where recreational vehicles can be parked by the tourists.

Maharashtra, which has a 750-km coastline, is also expected to have beach shacks by October 2021. According to sources, sites have been identified for the said purpose and detailed plans have been set-up in compliance with the beach shack policy, introduced by the government last year.
