Post the clearance of the decks for infrastructure development work of the Area Based Development (ABD) component, construction on the Rs 10,500 crore Ranchi Smart City Project is likely to begin soon. The infrastructure development of ABD includes roads and transport system, water waste management, storm water drainage, plantation, smart street lightings, power infrastructure, and water supply covering the entire ABD area of 656.30 acres. Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company Limited (JUIDCO) is the executing agency of the project which will undertake the development work in Dhurwa-Jagannathpur. Ashish Singhmar, CEO, Ranchi Smart City Corporation Ltd, informs that, “The estimated cost of the development is Rs 514 crore, and it will take around two years for the work to get completed.” The development across the city includes model roads and integrated traffic and transport system. The tenders for the construction will soon be finalised by JUIDCO.
In another development pertinent to India’s Smart City Mission, Kochi will soon be having the tallest twin towers by the name of Sands Infinit in South India, rising up to 152 m. Comprising of three basements, plus the ground floor and 29 floors, the building will create a workspace for 25,000 employees. The entire project is promoted by the Lulu Group International and is being executed using green and sustainable technology. It is expected to be completed by the end of December 2020.
Treading on the paths of Ranchi and Kochi with regards to the Smart Cities Mission, Andhra Pradesh government has also given its nod to Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) for the commencement of four smart city development projects. The projects include construction of elevated corridor from Market Yard to Tirupati Kapila Theertham Nandi Circle, Rs 24 crore solar park on 20 acres of land in the outskirts of Tirupati, City Operation Centre with state-of-the-art devices, and robotic multi-level car parking.
