Ranchi Outer Ring Road Map

The outer ring road will have six lanes, which implies that this new bypass might be linked near the Ormanjhi block office on National Highway (NH) 33. It is on Ranchi-Kudu Road as you head into Brambe.

Currently three National Highways, NH-75, NH-23 and NH-33 are connected to the inner ring road. According to the departmental authorities, the outer ring road will be 48 km long in the first phase, while the total length of the motorway will be 195 km. However, the length could vary as per the route decided in the project report. Currently, the route connects NH-33, i.e. Ranchi-Ramgarh Road to the NH-75 Ranchi-Kudu Road. This will make it easy to travel from Ranchi to nearby towns.

According to officials from Highway Construction Department, NH 20 will begin in Urkid to develop around NH-75. This bypass will then connect to NH-43, NH-75, E Chaibasa Road and NH 33 on one side of Ranchi Ramgarh Road and on the other side of Ranchi-Jamshedpur Road past Rampur. A seven-meter-wide access road will also be built on this road.

The benefit of an Outer Ring Road

One of the biggest advantages of the Outer Ring Road in Ranchi would be that traffic congestion would be reduced in the city, as trucks coming from outside would bypass the core areas in the town. Especially heavy motorised vehicles from Palamu, Gumla, Hazaribagh and Madhya Pradesh will use the Outer Ring Road.

The current population of Ranchi is 28 lakh and if people living on the outskirts are included, the number is over 36 lakh. As the city grows, so will the requirement of infrastructure to support upcoming areas. This is where the Outer Ring Road will play an important role.

Impact on real estate

Currently, the development work around the ring road is progressing rapidly. It is expected that with the construction of the outer ring road that will connect to five main highways, employment opportunities around it will increase and land will become more expensive due to the rising housing demand.

The alignment and specifics of the project will be ready soon with the detailed project report. For this purpose, the process of appointing a consultant is being carried out. Also, work on land acquisition and environmental clearance is under progress.
