The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has proposed to acquire around 200 acres of land in Nakkalapalli and Gadepalle villages in Warangal for the proposed revival of Mamnoor airport.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) that has the onus to revive the Mamnoor airport in Warangal may acquire around 200 acres of land from the farmers in Nakkalapalli and Gadepalle villages. The project requires 1,140 acres of land for restoration. While AAI has the possession of 700 acres, the remaining land has to be acquired.

The soil testing process in Nakkalapalli and Gadepalle villages has begun to check the suitability of the land for the project. According to Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Minister, Panchayati Raj, “The farmers providing their lands would be either compensated financially or given lands at an alternate site. An R&B road spreading over 50 acres may also be affected in the process; however, the developing agency will get full support in the restoration of the project.”

The Mamnoor airport was built in 1930 and served as a hangar for Government aircrafts during the Indo-China War. However, it became non-operational in the 1980s, and since then it has always been a moot-point for political parties. The airstrip once restored is expected to fillip the commercial and residential landscape in Warangal and create numerous employment opportunities.
